Here is a solution for local transport that will help you avoid paying for gas and give you some fresh air and exercise. The Rhoades Car 4 Wheel Cycle, an easy-to-ride pedal car, is much more stable than a bicycle and will carry home your groceries as well as allow you to bring along friends and family. It drives just like a car with a steering wheel, and even has turn signals. It is street legal with the optional head- and taillights. The heavy-duty frame will carry passengers weighing up to 350 pounds, and it is stable enough to travel off road without fear of overturning. Aside from saving money on fuel, you also won’t have to worry about speeding tickets or polluting the air. Your normal pace will be much more leisurely than in a car, so you will have to keep to the right side of the road unless you want to crank it up. It has up to 36 speeds to make it easy to climb hills. You can also add a small battery-operated electric motor to help with the steeper inclines, or to allow you to relax and cruise like a car.

There are four sizes to choose from: A single-seat roadster sells for $1,465 (factory direct); a 2-seat coupe with dual pedals is $2,128; and the big 4-seat sedan runs $2,277. The company offers several choices for customizing the vehicle to suit your needs. Seats are either comfy adjustable upholstered vinyl with armrests, or standard plastic buckets. Gearing is single speed, with options of 6 or 36 speeds. Independent sprockets allow either front passenger to pedal or coast separately. Rear passengers do not have pedals and can just sit and relax. The standard 20" wire spoke wheels can be replaced with molded black mags with white-wall knobby street tires. Brakes are hand operated, with a disc on the left rear wheel and an optional one for the right side. You can steer with a standard handlebar or a racecar-like butterfly wheel. Cargo can be carried in a rear open wire basket or a weatherproof secure trunk. A canvas top can also be added keep off the hot sun and occasional shower. The vehicle comes fully assembled and ready to drive. The only color available is blue. Of course, you can customize your Rhoades car to fit your own idea of what’s cool.

The Rhoades car company has been building these popular pedal cars in Hendersonville, TN, for nearly 30 years, so they have refined this machine to a very high degree of quality, with a two-year warranty. Their customers are extremely satisfied and proud to show them off. They even decorate and ride them in local parades. Local clubs around the country have sponsored road trips of up to 1,500 miles. They share their experiences on the company Website (rhoadescar.com).
