One possible solution to a crisis
Globally we’re experiencing a food crisis, gas is now over $4 per gallon on Long Island and we’re headed in to a presidential election.
What does this mean for us?
Well in my opinion we are going to hear lots of promises from the candidates on both sides.
Guess what we heard them before and we’ll hear them again. Voters need to say enough with the promises tell me how you are going to measure progress against promises ala the Gates Foundation with not for profits.
That said here is a suggested way we can help ease the Food crisis and improve fuel efficiency at the same time.
What about a Food Tax? I’m certainly not a proponent of new taxes, but I’m thinking something like this: For every new vehicle sold with average less than 30 MPG the manufacturer and buyer are taxed; however, the money bypasses our system going directly to world and local food banks, allowing them to offset the higher cost of foods they purchase.
We all know if the money goes into our system it may end up not going to food but probably for more Hummers headed to Iraq.
John, Obama you can have this one for free.
