Times in Our lives

This week my son Jake has been sick and teething at the same time. While it hasn’t been a perfect storm, so far it’s led to three pretty sleepless nights for us at the Pellicane house. Tuesday night my wife, Adele, and I thought we’d get a jump start on sleep, once Jake fell out, in anticipation of another crappy nights sleep. Shortly after we feel asleep our phone rang and we were awoken to bad news. My wife’s Aunt had passed away unexpectedly.

As we worked through the calls Adele was asked to make, the grief she and I were feeling, our sadness for her Aunts family, we eventually found our way back to sleep. A little while after we feel back to sleep Jake was up and we began the ritual parents around the world go through with a sick and teething child.

Wine, Food, Music

Our Wine, Food, Music event is this Saturday March 1. I’m excited by the response we’ve gotten already it’s shaping up to be a great evening.

We’re fortunate at canvas to have people like Whole Foods Market, Lieb, Macari and Raphael Vineyards , as well as, others that support our efforts.

We’re also fortunate to have people who work with us that are right there as we bring our ideas from concept to fruition. For this event we have two new people helping us make it happen Joanie Omeste and Lenn Thompson.

This will be great fun and I look forward to seeing you Saturday.

Taking Breath Away

The other night my daughter, Candice, was on-line looking at colleges. She said something about the school she was looking at. I asked what school it was and Candice said it was Hofstra University here on Long Island. She turned to look at my expression after she said Hofstra and a father/teenage daughter discussion ensued.

I know Hofstra’s a great school but Candice knows I’m a proponent of her going away to school for the experience. To have the chance to go away to school and learn more about being more independent, as well as, to discover who and where she wants to be as an adult. I’m sure she can accomplish those same things staying home, but I feel it would be purer without her parent’s daily influence if she stays home during her college years.

Is everything what it seems?

A new employee joined canvas in an advertising sales capacity this week. His name is Michael and we’re very excited to have him on board and can’t wait to get him going. As part of the new hire process we go through training period as most companies do. Of course we show new hires where the supply room is, how to log on to their email, where the restrooms are… you get the point.

For sales people we spend a lot of time training them on canvas. Who we are, what we are, why we are and our relationship to our readers and advertisers.

Mecury Retrograde

Late last week I took a call from a person who said she was interested in advertising with canvas, we talked for a few minutes and toward the end of the call she said “we’re in retrograde so I won’t make any big decisions,” advertising falls into the big decision category for her, “until after February 19 when the it ends.”

Since I’m not that deep in Astrology knowledge I didn’t know what she meant. I do read my read my horoscope every month, we both agreed Eric Francis who provides them for canvas is on point, but beyond that my knowledge is limited.
