Day Light Saving Time

As I began to write this post I head the voice of Andy Rooney of 60 Minutes bouncing around in my head. Why? Because day light saving time confuses me and I can just hear Andy talking about it on the show in that wondering aloud, word balloon popping out of his head manner that he has.

Although the are many theories why we have day light saving time, it was actually started in colonial times by Benjamin Franklin as a way to provide more sun lit hours that people would be awake during the summer months. But does it really save energy? According to the U.S. Dept of Transportation it saves 1% electricity consumption in the U.S., the least amount is saved during the winter months. If it does, then why doesn’t everyone have daylight saving time? The states of Arizona and Hawaii don’t use day light saving time; neither does Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Huntington Halloween

Halloween has come and gone, once again we are starting to hear the sounds of the Holiday Season approach. This Halloween was a milestone for our family, our son Jake is now 16 months and has the ability to understand what’s going on around him. My daughter Candice at 16 years old is almost past trick or treating, its bitter sweet for me to watch her grow through the various youth stages in her life.

We took Jake to the parade and trick or treating in Huntington Village. Seeing all the kids in the costumes, as well as, some of the parents was great. It’s a nice thing Huntington does for the kids, parents and merchants in the area. After a brief parade the kids were able to safely trick or treat in the village stores. The event really creates a sense of community and belonging for those who attend.

We got a picture of Candice and Jake in the canvas office before she headed off to work and we headed to the parade. Candice dressed as a football player, Jake as a Giraffe.
