“Everybody Disco” Opening
Saturday night we hosted our fifth artist reception “Everybody Disco” by Janet Pearlberg. What a great turn out we had and an interesting night it was. Janet’s art is unique and needs to be viewed vs. described. Janet matches her art; she needs to be experienced vs. described. Janet went out of her way to make sure it was a fun opening. I’m not an art expert by any means, but I think this opening was different, it was definetly different from our previous openings.
The night included two DJ’s, balloon figures and a costumed chicken who looked, as one of the other attendee’s noted, more like the yellow Teletubbie. The night move swiftly to the beat of music, alternating between electronica and early 80’s sounds. As you can imagine this level of activity took on somewhat of a surreal feeling at times.
I found myself thinking this feels like the setting for a fashion show in Manhattan not an art showing in Huntington Long Island.
The people who joined us for the evening were as eclectic as the art. I guess that’s the great thing about the lohas segment and canvas. Since we span demography it makes it interesting to meet readers and people within the segment we had people in their late 40’s and 50’s enjoying music by DJ’s in their 20’s.
While we didn’t sell any pieces that night, on the whole it was great fun and helps me to appreciate why we chose to show local art in our office as part of the Fooprint Media, canvas Magazine happenings.

Wow! I was lucky enough to see this show. It was awesome. YOung, fresh, original. Janet’s work is dynamic, vital and completely unique. The dichotomy between her two styles - the controlled form of the metal sculptures and the explosive nature of her canvasses - bring a new dimension to gallery viewing. Bravo! I hope to see more exhibits such as this one.
Janet the artist’s show was awesome - so cooool. It was like a Brooklyn show more than a Long Island show- the hipsters…Janet’s dress and personality are bigger than life and the art was freakin crazy but coool. the weirdo teletubby guy was hysterical- def have him back for the next one…..and cool atmosphere- thanks for a good friday night. -John
Bravo to Janet Rebecca! This was a fun show to work on, and the most unique artist personality to date. Janet deserves alot of credit for getting out there, and showing us all what a great self-promoter can do. Janet ROCKS!
