For Tammy Nuzzo-Morgan, the beginning was 2001. Her genius was in the pages of her poetry, which she brought to life with The North Sea Poetry Scene (http://groups.msn.com/TheNorthSeaPoetryScene). TNSPS is a nonprofit organization committed to enriching lives through the power of poetry. Located in Southampton, the group conducts readings, fundraisers, and literary programs throughout Long Island.

Through the organization, Tammy has not only encouraged other poets to prosper, but has opened up the world of art and literature to those in need. TNSPS reaches people as close as the East End and as far abroad as Kenya via The Michael Jason Nuzzo Scholarship program. This fund supports the Southampton Senior High School Scholarship Award by donating money toward one senior’s college tuition, as well as The Kenya School Project, which pays for two Kenyan students’ school tuitions over a five-year period. “It’s the most positive way I can help other children after suffering the loss of my 17-year-old child,” Tammy explains.

As a poetry teacher in both the Riverhead Correctional Facility and Hauppauge Day Reporting Facility, Tammy has helped inmates recognize their inner voice and recently published Finding Our Voices—an outstanding collection of prisoners’ poems. In addition, she has edited and published Long Island Sounds 2007: An Anthology of Poetry from Maspeth to Montauk and Beyond. Now in its 4th year, the anthology has grown from 33 poets in 2005 to 159 poets in 2007.  “We have poets being published for the first time, as well as [established poets] Desmond Egan and Aeronwy Thomas (daughter of Dylan Thomas),” Tammy excitedly continues.

Tammy has recently established the Long Island Poetry Archive Center (www.lipoetryarchivalcenter.com), where poetry and artifacts are housed in a climate-controlled storage facility, as well as the Cablevision show “The North Sea Poetry Scene Arts Forum: We’re not just poetry!” Barbara Reiher-Meyers, who handles pubic relations for TNSPS, describes this weekly public-access program (which airs Wednesdays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on channel 20) as a place where all artists, writers, poets, playwrights, and musicians are welcome to participate. Tammy has accomplished so much in just seven years, according to Barbara. “Long Island needs more selfless workers like Tammy Nuzzo-Morgan,” she says.

Tammy Nuzzo-Morgan has become a major force for poetry--a vertiable tsunami--on Long Island. Working with her has been a pleasure and a privilege. Her presentation of Aeronwy Thomas, Trefor Ellis (the poet's husband), and Peter Thabit Jones this past April, as part of the Spring Dylan Thomas Tribute Tour of America, was an exercise in singular accomplishment. It definitely was one of the highlights of the Tour. I am grateful for her fantastic, exemplary efforts in this regard, an know that Aeronwy, Trefor, and
Peter feel the same.

Tammy Nuzo-Morgan is a formality. She will always be "Tammy" to poets as myself, who became poets as a result of her encouragement and her stubborn determination to create a vehicle for voices that awaken talents that might never be heard. She has created a family that does what every family does - expand!
