If you’re lucky enough to witness Cutchogue resident Rod Tryon’s 3-D artwork, you might see a snake coming out of the asphalt or a killer whale jumping out of a city sidewalk. Tryon creates illusions with colored chalks, and as quickly as he produces them, they disappear with a simple rainfall. When asked if it’s difficult to deal with the temporary life of his artwork, Tryon replies, “Street painting is very much like performance art. The finished product is important, but the journey of the creation is a large part of the joy of the art for me. They’re special gifts to those lucky enough to see them being created.” When he’s not street painting, Rod works as a freelance artist with pastels, acrylics, and computer illustratio.
